The Charles Aris Executive Search team is excited to launch our annual Strategy Consulting Compensation Survey and we need your help. The data collected from this survey helps fuel studies which serve as dynamic benchmarking tools, whether you’re interviewing for a new role or looking to hire strategy talent.
For those who have participated in the past: THANK YOU – we appreciate your ongoing support. For newcomers, let’s take a moment to explain what this survey is all about and why it’s beneficial for you to participate.
What is the Strategy Consulting Compensation Study?
For the past decade, Charles Aris has produced Strategy Consulting Compensation Studies based on data gathered by asking current and former consultants about their compensation over the course of thousands of conversations we have each year. In light of pay equity laws enacted across much of the United States and associated territories, we changed our approach to gathering compensation data in 2018. For us to continue to produce these studies, the data must come to us voluntarily and anonymously; this led to a fully anonymous survey as our sole method for gathering the data. Last year, more than 2,000 current and former consultants completed the survey – we’re extremely grateful for such a strong response, as we could not conduct this annual study without your participation.
What is the benefit for hiring authorities?
Our Strategy Consulting Compensation Studies can serve as a helpful benchmarking tool when hiring strategy talent for your team. If an organization has not traditionally hired strategy talent, it’s common to experience sticker shock when trying to make these hires – and it can be difficult to get leadership and / or compensation committees aligned on an offer to attract the best talent. Equipped with this annual compensation study, hiring authorities can come up with creative solutions for bringing the right talent into their organizations. Robust data can help leaders build an internal case for compensation levels or adjust their expectations – and those of colleagues – in regard to the level of consultant their organization can attract based on its budget.
What is the benefit for candidates?
The Charles Aris Strategy Consulting Compensation Study is a great resource for evaluating the strength of the offers you receive and thinking through your offer negotiation strategy. We’ve had countless conversations with individuals leaving consulting who seek to understand what their expectations should be for compensation. This annual report enables you to see the broader compensation trends across the market and to make sure you’re receiving reasonable and fair offers.
A new initiative for 2020
We have an exciting announcement: For every completed survey, Charles Aris will donate $10 to one of three nonprofits (up to $10,000). After you complete the survey, you can choose which nonprofit you want Charles Aris to support on your behalf. Your nonprofit options:

- National Diversity Council (NDC): A nonprofit organization that advocates workforce diversity through diversity training, diversity consulting, diversity programs and diversity education.
- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of its founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
Thank you for helping us gather the information we need to make these reports so robust while teaming with us to support meaningful causes!
